Besides mounting animals such as deer heads, a taxidermist must have the ability to display the taxidermy mount in a proper setting. Taxidermists work with many different types chemicals and compounds. This requires one to be physically fit and capable of handling such items. Being in poor health may limit your abilities to become a taxidermist. Many cities and townships have strict regulations and rules related to taxidermy businesses . Certain zoning laws prohibit taxidermists from working within their home. Most U.S states require taxidermists to be certified and or licensed. Check with your town clerk and local DNR before you decided to open up a taxidermy shop.
